These tips are geared more towards women and may seem like common sense to some but, after many stories from Japanese females I have met, I feel like it is important for people to understand. Understand, I am not trying to make Vancouver seem like a dangerous place, I would apply the same rules anywhere in the world.
このアドバイスは ほとんど 女性向けですが 何年かの間に たくさんの日本の女性に 会って つくずく感じたことで コモンセンスとは思えますが ちょっと書いてみました。バンクーバーが恐いところ と言ってるわけじゃないけど このルールは 世界中 どこでも 使えると思います。

1. There are many sites or clubs that you can join or use to study English/find an English activity partner. Some people use "mylanguageexchange.com", some use craigslist and some even search for groups on either facebook or meetup.com.
1ー色々あちこちに日本語、英語を習うサイトやグループがあります。何人かの人たちはmylanguageexchange.com とかcraigslist を使い、ほかのひとたち はfacebook やmeetup.com とかを使ってそういうパートナーやグループを探しています。

2. When using these sites, as a female you need to be more careful. There can be many weird guys who are just interested in dating you rather than teaching you English on them. Some friends of mine would get a lot of perverted messages from people, sometimes with photos.
2ーこういうサイトを使う場合、 女性の皆様、特にもっと気をつけてください。日本人女性は  "ナイーブで簡単"と 良く知られているので ただひっかけるのを目的で 探している男性も います。知人の中にはメールで色々変態写真を送られてきて 困ったという話も 何回も聞いています。

3. When meeting someone, always meet at a public place such as a coffee shop or a shopping mall.
3ーもし会ってもいいような人が見つかったら 必ず公の場所で落ち合いましょう。例えばコーヒーショップとかショッピングモール

4. Always meet in the daytime.
4ー絶対昼間に会いましょう。

5. If you ever feel unsure, bring a friend with you. I once met someone and she asked if she could bring her boyfriend with her, he said hello to me and left once he saw everything was safe.
5ーもしまだなんとなく不安だったら 誰か友達に頼んで 一緒に来てもらってください。

6. If you ever meet a man and he is only interested in being your boyfriend and makes you feel uncomfortable. You don't have to meet him again! Don't feel that you have to be polite, bad things have happened to people I knew that were trying to be polite to a guy. Just ignore him and move on.
6-もし英会話の相手に男の人を選んで その人の目的が 全然 英語勉強とはかけ離れていて それが気に入らなかったら 二度と会わなくていいんですよ。相手を傷つけるなんて 気にすることもありません。無視が一番。

Other tips would be to try and branch out your friends. Some people I have met, came to Canada and hardly spoke English because they only hung out with people who spoke the same language. The best people at English I've met, made friends with people from other countries or really made it a rule that they would only speak English here. Also, try and not be shy, just try speaking and go ahead and make mistakes!
これは誰にでものアドバイスです。カナダに来て 同じ言葉の人とばかりでいると ちっとも英語は習えません。いろんな世界各地の人、いろんなグループに入って カナダの滞在を楽しんでください。たくさんの ESLの人に会いましたが ここでは絶対日本語を使わないで頑張ると 言った人たちは 本当に英語が上達して帰りました。恥ずかしがらずに どんどん間違いながら  しゃべりましょう。
